About Me
A Little History……
I have been working as a freelance body artist in the UK and overseas since 1993. Whilst I am experienced in a whole variety of temporary body art products, my specialist field is Henna. I spent my childhood & teenage years in Kuwait in the Middle East, where traditional Arabic Floral Henna Designs captured my heart and my imagination….
Since then I have branched out when necessary utelizing many different products to create the artwork that was required for the job at hand. Delving into tattoo paints and body paints for advertising jobs and threatrical work etc… I even helped to formulate a range of temporary skin staining gels with Warner Jenkinson for Halawa Henna Ltd back in 1997 specifically for use in the Film & TV & Photoshoot arena.
More recently I have helped develop a range of Jagua products for Primal Cosmetics Ltd. I have found these products to be a true miracle in the world of theatrical make-up for realistic and longlasting waterproof tattoo effects.
A few years ago I took the descision to finally take the final plunge in my body art career. 2004 saw me take up a real tattoo machine for the first time! About 10 years after Lal (Hardy of New Wave Tattoos) first offered to teach me, I eventually got around to starting my training. I have been very fortunate to have one of the UKs most renowned tattoo artists start my tattoo artists training. I have plans to open a studio, for permanent and none-permanent body art in the future, but it will be a few years before I get around to it! Watch this space ;-)
2004 was also the year that Simon and I finally got around to getting married. It was a Glastonbury Special, we got married Sunday night around 10pm (2 hours after closing the henna stall, not even a day off, talk about commitment LOL) at the Lost Vagueness Chapel of Love & Loathing. After 14 years it seemed like we’d worked each other out, and Glastonbury is our absolute most favourite place in the world to be, so there was no other choice of venues!
Sadly, as there was no Glastonbury this year, not only did we miss out on the most amazing product launch in the world for Jagua, we also sort of have no anniversary.. Its just not the same with no Sunday Night at Lost Vagueness… It must be a similar feeling if its your birthday on February 29th ;-)
Finally it has to be said, that I have been very lucky in my choice of work. Henna has taken me to the 4 corners of the world and on more adventures than I can possibly go into here. I have met some great people, worked with some of the worlds greatest body artists and had more than a few laughs – which is after all what life is all about ;-)
